Al Qana is located along the Khor Al Maqta, in the heart of the emirate of Abu Dhabi. It is easily accessible and is situated in a prime area surrounded by some of the best hotels in the city, which makes it ideal for both residents and tourists. The view from this waterfront destination is unobstructed; there is a clear view of the Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Mosque on the opposite bank, as well as the Memorial Park.
Khor Al Maqta is guarded by a fort – Al Maqta Fort- which is said to have been built in the late 18th century. This 200-year-old building once protected the entrance to Abu Dhabi, and preceded the Maqta Bridge which was built in 1967 as the first official way to enter the island. Until the 1950s the tower was the only way for wayfarers to be signaled upon their arrival and exit from the island. Therefore, Al Qana has become the entry point for visitors as they discover and take in everything the city has to offer.
Furthermore, the Maqta Tower also represented a resting area for travelers. This is also symbolized through Al Qana, as the go-to location for those who just want to unwind, relax and enjoy good food and beautiful views.
Al Qana as per its literal translation is a channel that brings back the historic location to its very roots, in addition to bridging the past with the future. The underlying principles of the project and its vision are presented through innovation and progress while preserving and acknowledging the city’s rich history. As our ancestors learned to welcome visitors to Abu Dhabi by sharing our heritage, the tradition continues through a warm welcome and relaxing experience at Al Qana.
